Psychology Department

Departmental History

The Department of Psychology was established in the year 1955. Right from the beginning the department had devotional patronage of luminary Prof. S. P. Atrey who also chaired the Departments of Education and Philosophy. Prof. Atrey’s vision, efforts and zeal brought academic laurels to this department. The rich tradition and strongly knitted academic fabric as laid down by late Prof. Atrey was nurtured further by untiring efforts of his successors, Dr. Indraprabha Atrey, Dr. Amaranth Mishra, Dr. S. N. Shukla, Dr. Umesh kumar Shukla, Dr. Ashok Kumar Bhaskar, Dr. Vandana Singh and Dr. Swadesh Bhatt (current head). The teaching faculty of the department with its unabashed and sustainable efforts has provided a sound base for graduate and post graduate teaching and academic research. P.G. course was introduced in 2004. The department is endowed with a recently refurbished Psychological laboratory & departmental library. The academic output of this department has brought laurels, reputation and excellence.

Thrust Areas

  • Current research thrust of the department are issues related to Mental Health, Stress, Spirituality, Happiness and Quality of Life etc.
  • The department is keen to develop action oriented research for enhancing well being of community at large especially cognitive, social & Health Psychology.
  • Psychological testing and counseling facility (academic & personal) provided by the department for effective redressal of problems and challenges faced by the students.


It was the only department in Siddharth University offering P. G. course in Psychology till 2018.

Practice of modern teaching methods and use of ICT in Teaching- Learning.

UGC Project (2011-2014) on “Arousal and emotion regulation in eyewitness performance of state and trait anxiety Subjects” by Dr. Gyanesh Kumar Tiwari and assisted by Rajarshi Mani Tripathi.

The faculty of department visits UGC-ASC, IGNOU and other institutions as resource person. Below are the details of some of the invited lectures by the faculty –

  • Invited lecture by Dr. Swadesh Bhatt on short term Yoga course, PERMA mode of Happiness, Fitness Workshop, Mental Health, Psychological Statistics, Refresher course & Orientation course etc. conducted by UGC-HRDC, LNIPE Gwalior.

Invited lectures by Mr. Rajarshi Mani Tripathi on

  • “Adjustment problem among students and its solution”
  • “Challenge and solution for subject selection Indian Education System”
  • Lectures in C.A.F.E. programme conducted by IGNOU.
