The college was established by Hon’ble Maharaja Balrampur “late Shri Maharaja Pateshwari Prasad Singh” in the memory of his loving mother late Maharani Lal Kunwari in 1955. The college was inaugurated by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, late Shri K. M. Munshi with science and arts faculties. Department of Botany is a premier department of this college. At the beginning, the college was affiliated to Agra University, Agra and Dr. A. K. Saxena was the first who joined the Department of Botany. After that Dr. P. S. Kapoor joined the department as Head in 1957-58 and continued till his superannuation. He was the first head of the department. He established and enriched the department through various ways such as the establishment of the Botanical Garden, Museum and Green house. In 1970 the department was uplifted to Post-Graduate level. At that time the college was affiliated to Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. Dr. P. S. Kapoor became the first Reader and Head of the department. Dr. J. P. Tewari was one of the faculties to be appointed in the Department at the post graduate level. Dr. P. P. Tripathi and Dr. S. V. Singh who already served the department and contributed a lot to its development. The PG section was enriched by different disciplines of Botany which are as follows:
